Isn’t my privacy policy free?

iubenda’s policy is “first license is free, with certain limits“.

We often get support requests questioning why you are prompted to upgrade to a paid version. Here’s what may be happening:

  1. you have accidentally created two privacy policies
  2. you are trying to add a clause that says “Pro”
  3. you are trying to add more than 4 services/clauses
  4. you are trying to add a cookie policy
  5. you are trying to generate a privacy policy for mobile apps

You have accidentally created two privacy policies

You may have unknowingly created two privacy policies in your account (or you’ve just forgotten about the previous one). This would then result in a paywall asking to upgrade that particular privacy policy to a Pro License.

What do you do to use your free policy?

Go to your dashboard to see if you have more than one policy in your account.

Ember

If that’s the case, delete the additional policy sitting in your account by hovering over the settings icon in the policy’s top right corner.

Now you should be able to generate your first privacy policy for free (Basic License).

You are trying to add a clause that says “Pro”

Not all of the clauses/services can be used with the free Basic License. If you find one with a Pro attached, you’ll need to upgrade in order to use it.

You are trying to add more than 4 services/clauses

If you go over a certain number of clauses/complexity, you will need to upgrade to the paid Pro License.

You are trying to add a cookie policy

Cookie policies are available only with the paid Pro License.

You are trying to generate a privacy policy for mobile apps

Privacy policies for mobile apps are paid in any case.

It still doesn’t work

Ok this shouldn’t be happening. Check again? If you not, we’re always here to help.
