We are not in the business of collecting users’ data and selling it.
Airmail is a local email client for Apple iOS devices. We process most of our users’ data locally on your device using the maximum grade of data storage protection available for Apple devices.
That means we do not have access to any of your data unless you enable a specific feature of the app, such as Realtime Mailbox Monitoring, Synched Snooze, or Send Later.
What types of data does Airmail collect?
Data transmission and collection depend on your settings and are required for us to provide the service.
If “Real-Time Mailbox Monitoring” is enabled for Gmail or Outlook, Office365, IMAP, and Exchange accounts, we store credentials solely to send push notifications.
We process incoming messages, deliver push notifications, and update the badge count.
If the user usr the "Send Later Functionality” for Gmail or Outlook, Office365, IMAP, and Exchange accounts, we store credentials solely to send the message at specified time after send the message the credentials will be removed.
If the user use the "Snooze functionality” for Gmail or Outlook, Office365, IMAP, and Exchange accounts, we store credentials solely to send the message back to the inbox and the credentials will be removed.
We do not store the content of your messages, email subjects, recipients, or attachments on our servers.
For Gmail, G Suite, Outlook, Office 365, Yahoo and OAuth Providers, we store the user’s email addresses and account tokens for a maximum of seven days after the last user app activity.
For iCloud, we store the user’s email address and app-specific password for a maximum of seven days after the last user app activity.
For other IMAP and Exchange Services, we store the user’s email address and tokens or passwords for a maximum of seven days after the last user app activity.
Please note that all saved data is encrypted so the email address cannot be identified, even in a potential data breach.
If you enable “Real-Time Mailbox Monitoring” notifications for VIP contacts only, the list of VIP email addresses is sent to our server and stored securely to allow message filtering.
Snoozed messages are synced by email + message-id for easy reference.
The transmitted data is encrypted end to end and transmitted to our servers using a secure HTTPS connection that is hosted by Google Cloud Platform.
Upon user consent, adding a new account and accepting terms and policies will add your email to our mailing list for communications and promotions.
Here is our data removal policy:
- If the user disables or removes the email account in Airmail settings, all data for that account will be removed from our servers.
- If the user disables “Real-Time Mailbox Monitoring” for an email account, all data for that account will be removed.
- If the user does not use the app for more than seven days, all data will be removed for that account.
- When the user removes the app from the device, all data will be removed after 7 days.
- If the user use the data removal functionality from the app, all data will be removed.

External audit
To assess the quality of our security practices, we successfully went through the security audit required by Google as part of its OAuth API verification.
The Google security assessment is mandatory for any service that connects to Gmail/G Suite accounts and stores data on its servers or in the cloud. It is an extensive process established by Google to ensure providers such as Airmail can guarantee a high level of security and privacy when processing and storing user-provided data. You can read more about this security assessment on Google’s FAQ here: https://support.google.com/cloud/answer/9110914?hl=en.
Anonymous GUIDs are sent to RevenueCat to share Pro subscriptions between Mac and iOS.
