Code for Canada runs programs that enable governments to deliver better digital public services and empower communities to solve civic challenges using technology and design. One such program, Gathering Residents to Improve Technology (GRIT Toronto), is designed to help test technology with its potential users in order to diagnose usability issues and, ultimately, find solutions that will improve the technology. Testing is typically conducted through a series of in-person testing sessions, with proctors guiding the participants through a series of evaluation questions and scenarios in order to identify usability issues. Test participants are recruited on Code for Canada’s website. Testing sessions are scheduled and coordinated via email.
The personal information collected is based on the specific purpose for the test and may include contact information, basic demographics, and sensitive data such as ethnicity, newcomer status, and others). Users will be provided with information about the purpose for collection and be given meaningful choices about what data they would like to share.
