The new EU legislation that could make or break your business

On June 28, 2025, a new directive from the EU will come into force, bringing with it new requirements that businesses will have to comply with. The European Accessibility Act (EAA) aims to make products and services more accessible for the elderly and people living with disability in the European Union.

Compliance requirements businesses will have to meet include:

Improving overall web accessibility and user experience

Including design features in products that make information and content available via multiple senses

Making apps, websites, and digital platforms perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust

Educating staff on web accessibility best practices

Carrying out regular audits to ensure compliance

Submitting regular reports on accessibility measures

Not complying with these requirements could result in penalties.

Will you be affected?

You’ll have to comply with this new directive if you:

Offer e-commerce, electronic communications, or audiovisual media products and services

Offer these products and services in the EU, regardless of whether you’re based in the EU or anywhere else in the world

Employ more than 10 people and have an annual turnover of more than 2 million euros

Essentially, if you sell products and services over the internet to EU citizens, you’ll likely have to comply with the EAA.

Not directly affected by accessibility regulations?

Prioritizing accessibility goes beyond legal conformity—it’s the right thing to do to make your services usable by everyone.

Regulations call for transparency
and that means including and informing every kind of user.

  • One in six people worldwide experience significant disability.1
  • 95.9% of the top one million websites have detectable accessibility errors. 2
  • 69% of people with disabilities will leave a website if it’s not accessible.3
