Adobe Fonts and the GDPR – How to be compliant

Adobe Fonts

What is Adobe Fonts?

Adobe Fonts is a paid library of fonts provided by Adobe Systems Incorporated. Adobe Edge Web Fonts is also provided by Adobe Systems Incorporated, but is free rather than paid. Both are typeface visualization services that allow your website/app to incorporate specific fonts on its pages. Adobe provides an interactive web directory and APIs which enables users to include fonts as needed.

Do I need a Privacy Policy if I use Adobe Fonts on my website or app?

Yes, you do.

If you use Adobe Fonts or Adobe Edge Web Fonts, you should add the “Adobe Fonts” or “Adobe Edge Web Fonts” service clause to your privacy policy. The Personal Data collected may include usage data and are specified in their Privacy Policy.

Do I need a Cookie Policy if I use Adobe Fonts on my website or app?

Yes, you do.

Adobe Fonts does not set or use cookies in order to serve its fonts, but some end-users data (e.g., IP address) may be collected, stored, and used for analytical purposes. Even if they are not strictly speaking cookies, you have to inform users of the use of any trackers or any other technology that enables the tracking of users on your website (and obtain consent to use them).

Do I need a Cookie Banner if I use Adobe Fonts on my website or app?

In general, websites that use third-party cookies as well as their own cookies for tracking and analytics must comply with the law and to do so are required to obtain the user’s express consent.

If you operate in the EU or could potentially have EU users, you need to comply with the Cookie Law.

Our Privacy Controls and Cookie Solution helps you comply with provisions of the Cookie Law; it allows you to easily inform users and facilitate their consent and includes the option to preemptively block any scripts that could install trackers before consent is given (required in many EU countries).
