Do I need a Cookie Banner if I use Google AdSense on my website or app?

In general, websites that use third-party cookies as well as their own cookies for tracking and analytics must comply with the law and to do so are required to obtain the user’s express consent.

If you operate in the EU or could potentially have EU users, you need to comply with the Cookie Law.

Furthermore, as Google AdSense is an advertising service, you may want to consider the following:

  • If you have European users, and monetize ads on your site, be sure to pass TCF consent to your advertising partners, as failure to do so may result in reduced ad reach and negatively affect your ad revenue. To enable this option, simply select the Advertising Preferences checkbox in within the Privacy Controls and Cookie Solution. Read more about it here.
  • If you have American users that could be from the state of California, you may need to comply with CPRA (CCPA amendment) requirements. A big part of this is disclosing processing that could be considered a sale under the CCPA. Another important aspect of CCPA compliance is giving your users the right to opt out. You can enable these options within your iubenda dashboard. Read more about how to comply with the CPRA (CCPA amendment) here.

Our Privacy Controls and Cookie Solution complies with provisions of the Cookie Law; it allows you to easily inform users, facilitate their consent, and includes the option to preemptively block any scripts that could install cookies prior to consent (required in many EU countries).
