How to Set up Your App for the Cookie Law

In native mobile applications, the use of tracking technologies such as cookies is less widespread than on the web. This has resulted in less attention being paid by lawmakers, who have so far been less interested when legislating on the matter.

The foregoing does not mean, however, that the general principle providing that user’s consent should be collected prior to data processing is not to be followed. From a practical standpoint, in the context of a native mobile application, it is necessary to ask for consent if you use tracking tools that do not fall within the exempt categories (e.g. first party / anonymized processing based on technical or statistical grounds), before the tracking occurs.

This can be done, for example, by showing a pop-up when the application is first used. Such a notification would serve to request consent to the use of tracking tools and to the privacy policies in general.
